Neither 1) nor 2) would actually mitigate the issue discussed in the topic you linked. Not many users had trouble adding the online sources using "Configure media sources for install and update", just that the "Add" button adds the repos using the MIRRORLIST. I think that edit-urpm-sources.pl should be changed so that clicking the "Add" button presents the user with two options: a) Add the media sources by letting urpmi pick a mirror automatically from the mirror list based on your geographical location b) Add a specific media mirror, you can select a single mirror to be used by urpmi Assignee:

thierry.vignaud It was indeed a problem that was coined in the discussion. But some users also reported that they were used to easyurpmi to manage their media source (at least for plf) and others that they were not really aware of the existence of the tool. When you open drakconf -> Software Management and see "Configure media sources..." and not click/use it, it's not a discover-ability problem IMHO. Most of the time, I do not use drakconf, I use directly rpmdrake. And I guess I am not the only one :) To be precise, I do not use usually drakconf for managing software, I use it for the other admin tasks (hardware, X, 3D, parental control, etc). Why? Because software management is available directly from the menu (in two different places under gnome). So I think that MGA should either: a) remove access to software management in the menu to force people to use drakconf and have access to all the software management options in drakconf. b) make available all software management options also in the menu. I do favor option b :)

marcello.anni On the panel, do you have shortcuts to every app that you use on a weekly basis? or just the ones you use on a daily basis? I think the latter, since one panel wouldn't fit all the apps. Similar logic here, you add the repos possibly once and forget about them; but you install/uninstall packages more often, so a menu shortcut for latter but not the former... YMMV. FWIW, drakrpm-edit-media can be accessed from rpmdrake -> Options -> Media Manager. On the panel, I only have a few apps, that I use daily. Each time I want to configure something in the system, I look for an entry in the the System/admin or System/preferences menus. I sometimes activate backports to retrieve a specific software, then disable it right after that. With the ability to select a specific mirror, people are more likely to use that software regularly. Yes, I use the rpmdrake -> Options -> Media Manager entry to access drakrpm-edit-media . I think that a link to that tool should also appear in System/admin, with the other package tools. System/Administration is only used in the GNOME menu; I though we were talking about the rpmdrake link in the top level of the Application menu (hence my objection to clutter it). I am OK with adding a link in System/Administration (even if it'll only benefit GNOME 2.32.x users). (But even adding a specific media mirror, is something you do once, unless you hit a faulty/slow/lagging one..). FWIW, you don't need to activate Backports, mgaaplet updates the backports repos (even when they're disabled) as part of its periodic updating process; so just selecting the Backports filter in rpmdrake should show packages from "disabled" backports sources. Cauldron Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja Keywords:

NEEDINFO Yes it is, but FWIW I think that the enhancement suggested in Comment#1 might be more useful than the original suggestion.

(none) I think this can die a natural death, born 2011, ignored for 7y. The media manager is discreetly accessible from rpmdrake Preferences/Manage media; more directly from Mageia Control Centre Manage software/Configure media, where most users would go. @James: re comment 12, do think that this bug warrants remaining open as an enhancement request? If not, please close it. CC:

lewyssmith I think it's time to close it. We now have excellent documentation for rpmdrake as well as several wiki pages. Status:
