the following change description, if ive got my facts right

* Thu Feb 05 2015 ovitters <ovitters> 2.24.25-4.mga5
+ Revision: 813545
- add patch to fix build with new gdk-pixbuf
- don't force Oxygen like gtk+3.0 package

has made apps like firefox, libraoffice no longer share the same widget look and feel (ie drop down menus etc) as the rest of the kwin/kde/lxqt look and feel.

this is almost like running a really old OS version like redhat 3 over X and displaying on a mageia 5 desktop.

this does not appear to have effected kde, but lxqt using kwin as its window manager now has an inconsistent look and feel across apps.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gtk+2.0-2.24.25-4 under mageia 5 beta using lxqt as desktop env, but using kwin from kde4 as window manager.

How reproducible:

use above environment on a mageia 5 beta 1 or 2 installation without update, and urpmi update.

Note: I believe the problem is with the above gtk version, but i blocked all gtk updates to avoid this problem.

so if you were to add /^gtk/ and /^lib64gtk/ to your skip.list
check out that the look and feel is consistent across firefox and libreoffice and any other gtk apps.

then remove the skip list entries above and let an update complete with the above included, the problem is instantly recognizable.

what is inconsistent look ? a screenshot

iirc we removed oxygen as default as it was buggy

an inconsistant look?

when the menus of one app , ie qt look drasticly different from the menus in gtk apps.
as im using kwin, before the update i get a kwin or kde looking menu on a app across all apps.

after the above update all gtk menus look square, block like with strong lines as item seperators.
all qt look , well like qt apps a clean and less defined look.

different anyway, and it looks unprofessional and messy.

re iirc we removed oxygen as default as it was buggy

define buggy, as ive never expirienced any issues with gtk apps under kde or lxqt.

this is the same kind of decision that was made about the aura look and feel in mandriva days.

so please fix it, by leaving it as a choice. ie dont force it.

upstream themselves of oxygen-gtk have trouble to fix bugs as the gtk guys always change api and obsoletes stuff, so yes there are issue.

Check our dev ml search for hugo and you will see what he wrote.

>so please fix it, by leaving it as a choice. ie dont force it.

we force nothing, you can still use oxygen if you want
