Description Len Lawrence 2015-02-09 00:16:39 CET
Description of problem:
On the first login the panel displays pairs of icons, i.e. two custom menu icons, two MCC icons and two firefox.... Removing one removes the other but adding it back produces just one instance. When doubled they can be moved individually, even moved to the other panel. If one panel is removed both vanish.

How reproducible:
It has happened on all recent installs of Cauldron (mga5 beta3) with a new user on a virgin /home partition.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Login and dd or remove panel icons
2.
3.

Another oddity; the preferences for the worktop switcher now lack the option to choose the number of workspaces. A separate issue probably.

Unfortunately i can not confirm this on a Beta2 VM which is fully updated at installation stage and i did not touch mate-panel since Beta1.

I noticed that too and working on a fix. Please open another bug report for this.
Comment 3 Len Lawrence 2015-02-11 01:10:39 CET
Thanks for trying.

I am somewhat reluctant to hose my home partition again so it will be difficult for me to test the doubling problem. Have to put this on hold for a while. Not much time for experimenting.

Shall make out bug report for the other issue.
Comment 4 Atilla ÖNTAŞ 2015-02-11 09:00:52 CET
Thanks Len. I have opened bug#15258 for the second (workspaces) issue and submitted fixed mate-panel for that. When you able to test please look at too.
Comment 5 Len Lawrence 2015-02-11 10:04:55 CET
Thanks Atilla. Shall test as soon as it comes through.

When I next try a UEFI boot I shall wipe my home partition and see if a new user has the doubling-icons issue. If so, the next test would be to restore user from backup and see if the old configuration removes the problem.

Meanwhile, checking the new Mate configuration against the backup shows that the new .config directory contains mate-session only whereas the backup has a mate entry as well:

[lcl@vega lcl]$ ls .config/mate
backgrounds.xml caja eom keyrings panel2.d
[lcl@vega lcl]$

The running system has these components:
/usr/bin/mate-about
/usr/bin/mate-about-me
/usr/bin/mate-appearance-properties

Comment 7 Len Lawrence 2015-02-11 11:01:01 CET
This bug may have disappeared by itself. I have just tried adding launchers from the system menus directly and by copying from the desktop and there was no doubling. Deleted the top panel successfully as well. The bottom panel vanished momentarily but reestablished itself with no loss of data.

Probably time to close this bug.
