I'm not sure this is valid. After you log in, you shouldn't launch MageiaUpdate through MCC, as you saw, that will lock the urpmi database so that mgaonline won't work. If you just wait, eventually it will notify you of the updates. It can take a while though.
Comment 3 Ben McMonagle 2015-01-15 19:54:36 CET
when using M4,kde, if you have checked for updates before Mgaupdate starts and have some updates available, paused and started doing something else, the update icon will pop up with a notifier " there are updates to install".
this last part is not happening. even after about 1/2 an hour.

the " wait about 5 min and attempt to install updates " was to confirm that the updater is doing its check, and has locked the database as proof of this.

sorry if I wasnt clear

I've a feeling it only checks medias marked as update medias. Cauldron doesn't use update medias so it may not work as expected there.

disclaimer: I don't run a cauldron system so not sure.

On cauldron it checks release repo's, even though they are not tagged as update sources.
Comment 7 Manuel Hiebel 2015-01-20 22:21:24 CET
it works fine on mate, lxqt, or cinnamon..

Mageia-5-beta3-x86_64-DVD Thu Jan 29 18:54:15 CET 2015: lxde

this only happens on first login.
may be a manifestation of unable to start MCC from launcher? bug 11184
Comment 9 Stephane 2015-02-22 11:09:20 CET
I noticed this on Mageia-5-beta3-x86_64-DVD until I have manually added update medias.

What disturbed me : check update throw MCC found new updates but i didn't get Mgaupdate notification. But Claire comment is a good explanation.

I read mgaupdate lines of code.
mgaupdate call urpmi with option '--update' so if there is no update media configured it explains that mgaupdate don't find update whereas MCC could find them.
Comment 11 Stephane 2015-02-22 20:42:18 CET
By defaut, '--keep' option is also selected by mgaupdate and generates this message :
"WARNING: --keep option is in use. Some strange problems may happen"

If it is true that this option may cause problem why to select it by defaut for urpmi ?
Comment 12 Stephane 2015-02-22 21:08:30 CET
I was wrong in my comment #9. If no update media are present MCC don't find update rpm like mgaupdate.

So to get update it is mandatory to add default "update media" in MCC source.
Then next reboot you will have notification and you could find update via MCC.

I reported in bug #12472, that it would be useful when no update media is configured to ask to contact mirror list like if you click on configure media source.

I still don't see the issue it works fine if it's configured, not this bug.
