Indeed the shutdown/reboot freezing issue is a KDE issue. It works fine from IceWM on that same desktop VM. I see some log messages that may give clues, and akonadi appears to be the culprit. (none) I'm not sure what's responsible for fixing it, and the akonadi errors may still be worth investigating, but the shutdown/reboot issue from KDE in VMWare is fixed with the latest updates. Status:
