Description Johnny Accot 2014-12-11 12:02:36 CET
Description of problem:

Trying to install the French localization package for the beta version of firebox, I get the following error message:

âfirefox-beta-fr is obsoleted by (installed) task-obsolete-5-68.mga5.noarchâ

The main package, firefox-beta, gets installed without any issue. Please forgive me if I misunderstand the semantics of task-obsolete, but my impression is that the localization package is wrongly considered obsolete here. The beta is not the old release before the current one (31) but rather the next version of firefox to be released (35).

Package versions in current cauldron:

task-obsolete-5-68.mga5
firefox-31.3.0-1.mga5
firefox-beta-35.0-0.b2.1.mga5
firefox-beta-fr-35.0-0.b2.1.mga5

That's intended as it doesn't work anyway, ff-beta is always in english

Comment 2 Johnny Accot 2014-12-12 11:54:34 CET
Oh. I do use Firefox 35 (i.e. the beta) in French, with the firefox-beta-fr-35 localization data. Maybe you mean it's not enabled by default*. Anyway, you may of course close this bug if the behavior is intended. I just thought I'd report it. Thanks.

* Maybe I should mention it can be installed running, e.g., âfirefox-beta /usr/lib64/firefox-beta-35.0/extensions/langpack-fr@firefox.mozilla.org.xpiâ

Humm I should look againt at it then.
If indeed it works, we can revert those obsoletes
Comment 4 Samuel Verschelde 2015-05-21 11:37:01 CEST
Thierry, have you reverted the obsoletes as intended by you in comment #3?

Setting temporarily blocker so that a decision is taken about this bug.

Comment 5 Thierry Vignaud 2015-05-21 11:49:41 CEST
I never planned to do that. It's me who actually added those obsoletes.
Those l10n packages are useless as firefox-beta would need to be patch to look for their location instead of the default location, thus ff-beta fails to use them)
Comment 6 Samuel Verschelde 2015-05-21 11:59:53 CEST
I should have said: you intended to look if you could revert them (comment #3)

(and beta rpm are removed from stable three, if it's not missed)
Comment 8 David Walser 2015-05-23 13:17:05 CEST
Yes there's no firefox-beta* anything in stable releases, so if it's desired to drop these from task-obsolete that can be done after Cauldron re-opens, but if firefox-beta-l10n isn't coming back, there's no point anyway.

Looks like Thierry finally forgot about what he was going to look at comment #3. Closing as OLD, feel free to reopen.
