Thanks for the bug report. Could you provide the file /root/drakx/report.bug.xz as an attachment ? If you don't have the file, you can switch to console 2 (by pressing 'Ctrl-Alt-F2') during installation, put a floppy in floppy drive or plug a USB key/stick and type: 'bug' then press Enter. It will put report.bug on the floppy/key. Keywords:

NEEDINFO Ctrl-Alt-F2 only gave me a blinking cursor. Typing 'bug' blind did not seem to put anything on the USB stick.
Using the live CD; boots from the second optical drive, fails in the first.
Loading Linux Kernal proceeds rapidly to about 75% then slowly to 100% and pops up the message, "/boot/cdrom/initrd.gz: file not found". Clicking OK returns to the screen offering to install Mageia, boot from hard drive, etc. Selecting 'Boot Mageia 5 Cauldron' starts Loading Linux Kernel, slowly. Followed by;
EDD: Error 8000 reading sector 1118
Loading /boot/cdrom/initrd.gz failed: No such file or directory
Ctrl-Alt-Fn did nothing at this stage.

mageia, thierry.vignaud So the "symlinks" part here is really just a red-herring. The real problem is that it was unable to mount the filesystem from the CD drive. I guess that comes from not using a proper mount daemon like udisks to do this for us :( I don't really know the code that does the mounting of stage2 here in relation to optical drives - so will have to see if there is some kind of better enumeration we can use as a sticking plaster. http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/drakx/tree/mdk-stage1/init.c#n430 create_initial_fs_symlinks() is called from: http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/drakx/tree/mdk-stage1/init.c#n523

gouessej I obtain exactly the same error message when trying to boot on the EFI of Mageia 4 to install it on a MacBook Pro 3.1. Should I write a separate bug report? No, mga4 installer is frozen Does it work better if you boot from USB instead of a CDROM? Source RPM:

drakx-installer-binaries I tried to do so several days ago with Mageia 5 beta 2. I saw "Welcome to GRUB", it seemed to work but it stayed frozen after a few minutes with a message about UMTP update. I will post a screen capture later. *** Bug 12404 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11991#c2 suggests it happens when there's not enough RAM... Maybe stage1 should refuse to boot if there's lesse than 512Mb of memory? Severity:

normal There are 2 GB of RAM on this MacBook Pro 3.2. Any usefull stuff on tty[234]? Also, as mga4 installer is frozen, it'll never be updated. Can you try mga5 RC instead? (In reply to Thierry Vignaud from comment #15) > Also, as mga4 installer is frozen, it'll never be updated. > Can you try mga5 RC instead? That's why I tried with Mageia 5 beta 2. Where is there an ISO of the RC that I can put into the USB key with Isodumper? You shouldn't ask when the answer is so easy to find: http://www.mageia.org/fr/ bottom of page. (In reply to Samuel VERSCHELDE from comment #17) > You shouldn't ask when the answer is so easy to find: > http://www.mageia.org/fr/ bottom of page. Sorry, thanks. So what about mga5 RC? No response from the last update so presume it's fixed. We can reopen/create new bug for next installer cycle. Resolution:
