Description MichaÅ Walenciak 2011-02-20 22:39:36 CET
Description of problem:
after I login to kde, I don't hear any sounds when playing ie amarok. There is also a message in tray that default sound device is not available and "side speakers" will be used. If I close amarok and start it again, it plays music and everything is ok.
If I run kadu ( polish instant messenger, compiled by myself which uses phonon ) just after login (before amarok) it plays sounds without any tricks, but if I start amarok then, the whole sound system crash: I have variuos sound issues like: noise, slow sound etc...

How reproducible:
As described above:
login and start amarok; in my case no music.

Reproducible:

What is the backend used ? phonon-gstreamer or phonon-vlc?
do you have installed the correct gstreamer0.10 plugins ?

gstreamer.

I guess I have all the plugins becouse my mageia was installed over mandriva.
Anyway:

Does the same issue happen in a new user account?

Comment 4 MichaÅ Walenciak 2011-03-15 17:17:00 CET
the worst thing is that it stopped to happen.
It was not related to any sound rpm: it was happening yesterday, and today is ok. I've check which rpms were updated and it's only some meta-task, rpm, urpmi, wine some fonts etc stuff.
The only extra rpm i've added was keychain, but i guess it's not related ?

on new account it's ok.
Now on mine: if I start firefox first, its ok. All firefox stuff (flash etc) may play music. I can run amarok and it's ok also. But if I run amarok first, then firefox has no voice, onloy a message in console:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

It looks that the problem was in different order of sound devices in systemsettings/Multimedia for each group. I've set the same order for each one, and now it's ok. I don't know why did it change nor why the order was important...
