Description MichaÅ Walenciak 2011-02-20 22:26:47 CET
Description of problem:

there are two issues: more imporant and less important:
1. kde4 is not informing me about new devices (usb sticks etc) (small problem)
2. k3b cannot burn cds/dvds couse it cannot see any drives (and says it may be coused by not running hal deamon) (that sucks :/)

but as you may see, hald is running:

[michal@Kicer michal]$ ps ax|grep hal
<cut>
12102 ?        Ssl    0:00 hald
12103 ?        S      0:00 hald-runner
12157 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-input: Listening on /dev/input/event0 /dev/input/event1 /dev/input/event2
12175 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: no polling on /dev/fd0 because it is explicitly disabled
12177 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdc (every 2 sec)
12179 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdd (every 2 sec)
12180 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sde (every 2 sec)
12182 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdf (every 2 sec)
12187 ?        S      0:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sr0 (every 2 sec)
<cut>

/dev/sr0 is my dvd writter

How reproducible:
just check if k3b can see any drives, or kde informs about inserted cds/usb sticks/etc

FYI: kde doesn't use hal anymore but udisk instead

Yes, does installing udisks fix this issue (next kdelibs4-core package will require udisks automatically).
