Which ISO did you use ? On a standard install, there is a panel following package install (the long part) that prompts for a root password. Did you see this and enter anything ? If no password was really set, you should be able to boot the system to the graphical login prompt, do CTRL-ALT-F2 to get to a tty (character-based) login prompt, login as root giving no password, and then use the "passwd" command to set a root password. UNCONFIRMED (In reply to Frank Griffin from comment #1) > Which ISO did you use ? Note: I gave up and installed ubuntu now. If it can't be reproduced on your side, please close this bug. sorry for the noise. Thx for the feedback, Ting Liu, I'll close this report. However, if anybody else runs into this, too, then please reopen this bug report and attach /root/drakx/report.bug.xz from your install to it. To make things more clear: the root password for a traditional install should be set in this screen http://doc.mageia.org/installer/4/en/content/addUser.html As Frank explained: that screen should appear after the big bulk of packages got installed. Please also tell where you downloaded the iso from (and which version + arch it is, exactly), what the checksums of the downloaded iso were and whether you dumped it on a USB key or burned it on a DVD.
