However, apart from those error reports, after recent Cauldron updates,
 vlc nevertheless does now run!

Actually, the result is the same as under Mageia-4, and vlc nevertheless does now start and perform. Perhap Cauldron updates now allow it to function, but for some reason still put out those error reports (same on Mageia-4...)?

The original bug was that VLC would not start, but the fact seems to be that although it does start, both in Mageia-4 & Cauldron it nevertheless puts out those error messages, which is in itself a bug.

So this bug could continue as a vehicle to correct that - or should I raise a new bug report for the error messages?
