I use quite frequently Qt-Linguist and Qt5-Linguist tools but they are not translated into French on my system. It remains in the default language (English).

I think other Qt tools are also affected. And this is for mga4 and Cauldron.


How reproducible:
By installing and using the Qt tools.

Steps to Reproduce on mga4:
1.Install 'qt4-linguist' package
2.Open qt4-linguist and see if it is translated on your local language

Steps to Reproduce on Cauldron:
1.Install 'qttools5' package
2.Open qt5-linguist and see if it is translated on your local language

@David: This is more of an upstream issue no?

Did you find out how Qt translations are handled? Maybe some of us could join their translation team and help to translation Qt4-Linguist and Qt5 in French (I've noticed that lots of things are untranslated in Qt5 generally speaking).

Yes this is an upstream issue.

Yes exactly a lot of Qt4/5 tools are untranslated or partially translated for french languages and maybe for others too.(This is really heartbreaking.)


By cons, for such translations of qttools5 we must install qttranslations package, it should be required by qttools5 but this is not the case for now (you have to install it manually).

I'm not so sure anymore that this is totally an upstream issue (apart from the fact that the French translation for qt4-linguist is practically empty).

There are translation files for many languages in qt4-linguist, but none are displayed when choosing them with "LANGUAGE=xx linguist".

Ok, I could confirm that the translations _work_ in qt4-linguist with another locale than French, e.g. German. So the issue here is only that Linguist was not translated into French, so WONTFIX on Mageia's side.

As for Qt5 apps, Nicolas will add the missing requirements on qttranslations5.

So it seems those translations files are not only needed for Qt Apps but also for libraries such as qtbase, qtmultimedia, etc.

WDYT? Should it be bluntly added as a Requires in qtbase, or split in all subpackages?
