An update from cauldron as of 17Feb to 27Feb has broken the ability to launch KDE4 from GDM.

I had last updated on 17Feb, and have successfully logged into KDE4 from GDM after that.  After updating and rebooting this morning (27Feb), the login hangs after one bubble from the MGA cauldron.

If I manually switch /etc/sysconfig/desktop to KDM, the login works fine.  If I switch it back to GNOME, it hangs again.

syslog shows various messages which appear to be errors.  I'll attach the relevant fragment.

Just quickly looking at the log you posted, the only errors I saw were from "sabayon," so maybe try uninstalling that and trying again.  That package hasn't been rebuilt recently, so I don't know what might have broken it.

OK, I removed sabayon and sabayon-admin, and the only remaining sabayon-related package is python-sabayon.

The behavior is still the same.  I'll post a new syslog.  sabayon errors still show up (sabayon-apply), but there are also permission errors for files under /var/adm/gdm and various complaints from dbus about session partners disappearing.

I'm not sure which (if any) of these things is actually significant.

Whatever this is, it has to do with the gdm/kde4 relationship.  I'm able to use gdm to log into GNOME, LXDE, and Cinnamon just fine.

I won't be able to look at this for a few weeks at least (not updating to cauldron for a while to make sure MGA4 stuff is stable)
