Description Jose Nunez 2014-02-21 18:57:04 CET
Description of problem:do not function the airnet AIR-USB112GHP wireless usb adapter with the rt73usb driver in Mageia 4 linux 64bits.

In madriva 2010.0 (in a 32bits machine) the rt73usb driver operate correctly with the airnet wireless usb adapter, i see inmediately many wireless networks to connect.

In my new AMD machine with a CPU SEMPRON 2.8GHz 64 bits the MAgeia 4 64 bits DVD inmstalled all the KDE linux software completly and successfully but when I ran or start the Mageia linux the airnet wireless usb adapter do not show any network to connect. I only see that it uses the rt73usb driver and has the name wlp0s2flu4.

finally my airnet wireless usb adapter uses a ralink rt2571 chipset.

Please what can I do to resolve this problem in Mageia 4 linux 64 bits?

best regards

Jose

Can you attach output of lspcidrake -v

CC: (none) => tmb

Comment 2 Thierry Vignaud 2014-02-22 21:55:45 CET
Note that it needs the rt73.bin firmware.
Have you the ralink-firmware package installed?
If not you must enable the "Nonfree release" medium & install it...

there are many lines in the output but there is one for your interest:

r73usb: Ralink | 802.11 bg wLAN (vendor : 148f device : 2573)

What can I do to resolve this problem...?

There is no wireless usb connection ...!

The ralink-firmware version 20140119 package from your Mageia 4 DVD is installed in my machine.

Also, I see that it is installed the lib/firmware/rt73.bin in my machine.

What can I do to resolve this problem...?

Can you do dmesg >dmesg.txt and attach the resulting file dmesg.txt to this bug report
Comment 6 Thierry Vignaud 2014-02-25 18:03:11 CET
Maybe the journal.txt.xz file resulting from running the following command would contain more useful?
journalctl -b 0 |xz -9 > journal.txt.xz

I attach the dmesg.txt file of my 64bit machine that you require............!

Also I would attach dmesg_01.txt file of my 32bit machine that runs Madriva 2010.0 Linux software and where the wireless usb adapter operate perfectly.....!

It is a supposition, could it be the IPV6 protocol because I suppose that here in Peru maybe we are using IPV4 protocol....?

I suspect that the ralink rt73 driver if for kernel 2.6.x and not for kernel 3.x.x
...........?

Is this a typo by you ?

it states r73usb, even if the driver is called rt73usb

nope, we use the in-kernel rt73usb kernel driver.

your wireless card is wlp0s2f1u4, you have to configure it via, drakx-net, networkmanager, or anything else.

In Mandriva 2010.0 with a 32bits machine drakx-net is installed by default and automatically it detects the wireless usb adapter and show me many wireless networks to connect.

In Mageia 4 with a 64bits machine the drakx-net is installed by default but there is no wireless networks detected to connect.

Thierry you have to recompile the rt73 driver for kernel 3.x in 64 bits machines it only function the rt73.bin in 32 bits machines with kernel 2.6.x.

It is necessary because here in Peru there are many wireless adapters that use this rt73 driver.

best regards.

Installer and Release bugs should always be set to cauldron, because once the isos for a stable version have been created, they cannot be changed.

This bug was filed very long ago, for Mageia 4. Was this bug still valid for Mageia 5?

(If so, please do _not_ set the version to "5". Only asking because if it was still valid for Mageia 5, that then we'll know we'll have to pay attention to this issue when testing the 6 alpha's and later).

Please close this bug report if the problem was solved in Mageia 5hhhh

Version: 4 => Cauldron

Not an installer bug AFAICT.

Component: Release (media or process) => RPM Packages
Hardware: x86_64 => All

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you

As announced over a month ago, Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates.

This issue may have been fixed in a later Mageia release, so, if you still see it and didn't already do so: please upgrade to Mageia 5 (or, if you read this much later than this is written: make sure you run a currently maintained Mageia version)

If you are able to reproduce it against a maintained version of Mageia, you are encouraged to
1. reopen this bug report, by changing the "Status" from "RESOLVED - OLD" to "REOPENED"
2. click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If you know it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.
3. give as much relevant information as possible. If you're not an experienced bug reporter and have some time: please read this page:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

If you see a similar issue, but are _not_sure_ it is the same, with the same cause, then please file a new bug report and mention this one in it (please include the bug number, too).

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
