Can you try to start from command line? Does it report any errors? What is the desktop environment you are using? Keywords:

NEEDINFO > I am running KDE desktop. > about 1 attempt in 10 the globe will bounce around for a while, a panel will come up with choices of clicking on one spot to cause firefox to come up in safe mode, or click on another bar to erase all memory of everything in firefox. > clicking on either bar will cause the panel to go away and no firefox. The rest of the time the ball bounces around for 20seconds or more and no firefox. > Give me the command string to enter into command line and I will try it. Just open konsole and type firefox, then hit enter. And please reply in this bug.. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12833 - please use this address to reply. Firefox: symbol lookup error: "user/lib64/firefox-24.3.0/libxul.so:undefined symbol: png_getfirst frame-is hidden - it seems there is some problem with libraries. Are you sure you have updates repos enabled and you have installed all updates that those repos provide? And AGAIN, please use the web interface to submit your comment. Don't reply via email, it doesn't work that way! Sorry about that! After installing from the DVD I went ahead and installed all the updates from online. the following are "enabled" CD ROM Core Release CD-ROM Nonfree Release HTTP Core Dupdates(distrib1) HTTP nonfree updates (distrib2) HTTP Core 32 bit Updates(distrib4 HTTP Nonfree 32 bit Updates(distrib5) Since this is a 64 bit system that would appear to be the problem: no 64 bit updates??? With the exception of the first 2 the "updates" column have checkmarks in the boxes and all the checked and unchecked boxes in that column are greyed out. Perhaps the 64 bit updates were not programmed into the automatic install on startup updates for the 64 bit system. tell me how to enter it and we can kill this bug. Your patience and assistance and the entire Mageia operating system and applications are VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!! To you and EVERYONE working on Mageia, THANK YOU! Thanks for putting up with an "appliance operator" level operator. Core Updates are the 64-bit updates and 24.3.0 is from updates repo so it seems OK in that regard. You can try to remove firefox and reinstall it. And if you don't need CD medias you can remove those too and enable online medias. even with some extra stuff added(I clicked on ADD on the update sources page in Mageia Control Center) and updating more things, FF is still not running. I guess I will have to wait until something else happens to get it running. For the present I am using the Chrome browser. I generally download the DVD image and burn it onto a DVD, and then do the major install from that. IF there is a way to do a total update entirely through the internet, I might do it. One reason I want to go the DVD route is there is a dilapidated non-functional Window$ XP on the hard drive, the next time I load from the dvd, I am going to tell it to use the entire hard drive, format it, and install it using full sized partitions. I might just go ahead and do a complete reinstall, wiping all that window$ off the hard drive, reinstall Mageia from the DVD and see if the problems go away. If they don't, I just wait for the next version/all the bug fixes that come along over time. The hard drive is quite new, and in good shape. No one reproduced this issue, so far Keywords:
NEEDINFO =>
(none) Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release. Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you most [2]. [1] https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager [2] http://www.mageia.org/contribute/ As announced over a month ago, Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. This issue may have been fixed in a later Mageia release, so, if you still see it and didn't already do so: please upgrade to Mageia 5 (or, if you read this much later than this is written: make sure you run a currently maintained Mageia version) If you are able to reproduce it against a maintained version of Mageia, you are encouraged to 1. reopen this bug report, by changing the "Status" from "RESOLVED - OLD" to "REOPENED" 2. click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If you know it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release. Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO. 3. give as much relevant information as possible. If you're not an experienced bug reporter and have some time: please read this page: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly If you see a similar issue, but are _not_sure_ it is the same, with the same cause, then please file a new bug report and mention this one in it (please include the bug number, too). If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you most [2].
