doktor5000 and if you use kdm or lightdm ? Yes kdm has the shutdown option but on my first Mageia 4 install I wanted to use Mate but kdm did not offer it. I have since come to the conclusion that Mate was not properly installed. I suspect that the problem will evaporate if I reinstall Mageia 4 and make sure all the Mate packages are selected. I am using kdm on another Mageia 4 machine and shall try gdm to see if it now marries well with Mate. Have now tried that, with success. The problem was that on the laptop there was a battery icon in exactly the place where the shutdown icon appears on a workstation, so no bug. I assume that the power off symbol will appear in the pulldown menu on a laptop. My apologies for the noise. So we can closed this as RESOLVED INVALID if the problem hasn't appeared again? Yes, please do. you could have done it ;) Status:
