I ave variouos systems with haldaemon disabled and everything works fine
(looks like it...).
The only problem is dm, that doesn't start because of initscript requirements:

At least gdm doesn't use hal anymore, so you could apply this:

Somebody should check other DMs, and if hal is not needed apply this.
I think this will also help with systemd.

dm starts OK here with haldaemon disabled altogether.

The change shouldn't happen for Mageia 1, too late in the release cycle. Hopefully for Mageia 2, hal will have been phased out completely from the distro.

no maintainer for initscripts yet, so I cc'd about everyone who revised this package

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

I can't imagine this bug is still valid, hal is deprecated and our DM's work.
