mageia, tmb I suspect the wrong port is selected by default. Can you do a "pacmd list-sinks" and attach the output. You should be able to select an appropriate port via a GUI, but I'll advise further. There are a few bugs open that relate around getting things correct at first login. Can really say what's up, but I suspect some underlying alsa issue.

Ahh right, that's slightly more interesting then :)
Can you open up e.g. pavucontrol, and on the Sinks tab, select "Analoge Ausgabe" from the Ports drop down (not sure what it will be translated to!) and see if that helps?
In theory, it shouldn't but.... :)
My system is in German so you can use German expressions if you like. I started pavucontrol. In the lower part I changed the port to Analoge Ausgabe. But there is no change. There is no sound on the speakers, only on the head phones when I plug them in. When I use the dropdown for Port the first item (above "Analoge Ausgabe") is "Speaker (unavailable)". Might there be a problem with my loud speakers? Hmm, it shouldn't say "Speaker (unavailable)" it should say "Speaker (unknown)" as the availability info is not known for sure. In the pacmd output it's shown properly so this is likely just a UI problem in pavucontrol itself. Hmm, 'Auto-Mute Mode' looks strange.
Try amixer -c0 set 'Auto-Mute Mode' 'Disabled'
(not sure of the syntax so play around to get that control turned off!)
Oh and switch it back to the Speakers port too - it's probably right.
I was able to disable it with this command: amixer -c 0 sset "Auto-Mute Mode" Disabled (http://superuser.com/questions/431079/how-to-disable-auto-mute-mode). There's a change in pavucontrol now. In the dropdown it say "Speaker" now (and not "Speaker (unavailable)" like before). Now it says only "Speaker (unavailable)" when the headphones are plugged in. But there is still no sound when I choose Analoge Ausgabe or Speaker. Ahh OK, so the Auto-Mute Mode is needed then to do the jack detection stuff. Maybe worth restarting the computer to see if this actually somehow affects PA... don't htink it will help tho'. If not then I'd trun the Auto-Mute back on again. Might be a bit of a driver issue then... will have to ask some folk that know more than me in this area. I already have this problem with mageia 3 although I never reported it. Now it's still with mageia 4 RC and I would be very glad if this could be fixed. I'm not 100% sure that it isn't a hardware problem. Is there a way how I can test my speakers in order to be sure that they really work? I must say that on my notebook I only have mageia installed and can't test this with another system. - I will no restart my computer. I rebooted. The "Auto-Mute Mode" is still disabled. Everything is still the same. No sound on the loud speakers. I was able make an Windows install in order to test the sound on my notebook. There is the same problem under windows, sound on the earphones, but no sound through the speakers. I think it is a hardware problem on my computer and close the bug report. Sorry for bothering you about this. And thanks for working on making mageia a great distribution! Status:
