There are many possible reasons for this and many things that can kick in when you open/close the lid, like acpi actions (defined in /etc/acpi) and systemd's new support for Lid switch actions (configured through /etc/systemd/logind.conf). I'd guess the latter is causing your issues. Try researching and experimenting with that. Not seen in mga5 Status:
