I tried to upgrade a Mageia 3 partition with the 64bits 4beta2 DVD

At first, I used only the DVD as medium, but that didn't work, install failed with a lot of messages like

devel(libuuid(64bit)) is needed by (installed) lib64sm-devel-1.2.1-4.mga3.x86_64
qt4-devel is needed by (installed) lib64qt-mobility-devel-1.2.0-10.mga3.x86_64
qt4-devel is needed by (installed) lib64qtwebkit2.2-devel-2.3.2-1.1.mga3.x86_64
qt4-devel >= 4:4.8.0 is needed by (installed) kdelibs4-devel-2:4.10.5-1.1.mga3.x86_64
pkgconfig(QtCore) is needed by (installed) lib64qtwebkit2.2-devel-2.3.2-1.1.mga3.x86_64
pkgconfig(QtGui) is needed by (installed) lib64qtwebkit2.2-devel-2.3.2-1.1.mga3.x86_64
pkgconfig(QtNetwork) is needed by (installed) lib64qtwebkit2.2-devel-2.3.2-1.1.mga3.x86_64

I was returned to the "add supplemental media" screen and chose one or two ftp servers, install failed again and I tried again, again fail, again tried, then succeeded (the changelog ml didn't show that much activity over the last day, so I'm surprised that I got the "Installation failed" message so often)

There is good news, too: after reboot I did *not* see bug 11827

Either a packaging bug or there's not enough packages on the DVD.
Does it work better if you add the network media?

> Either a packaging bug or there's not enough packages on the DVD.

I'm sure I had packages installed in Mageia 3 that were not on the DVD, but I've been told that install shouldn't fail on that.

> Does it work better if you add the network media?

I did *not* first downgrade the already installed packages to Mga3.
It did fail again three times (one more than I thought before) and then succeeded on the 4rth try.

Attaching the messages about the failed transactions /after/ network media were added.

Fails with only DVD

now attaching the failed transactions at first try, when only the DVD was used

Oops, maybe I misunderstood and you meant: at first try, before having upgraded anything?

If so, then I hope to find time to create a similar Mageia 3, and upgrade from that with network media added.

Please re-add NEEDINFO if this is indeed what you meant

Tested here with RC iso and all went smoothly without any bug on vbox
Comment 6 Marja Van Waes 2014-01-17 20:09:50 CET
with 10th round 32 bits DVD there is no problem, I upgraded a Mga 3 to which I had deliberately added many packages that aren't on the DVD.

DVD-only upgrade went fine.

I had forgotten this bug was about 64 bits, so I did the wrong test, I'll test with a 64 bits upgrade, too

and on real hw, again, like when I hit this issue
Comment 8 Marja Van Waes 2014-01-18 14:14:48 CET
64bits upgrade of a default mga 3 KDE + task-edu + bm + dependencies

Everything went fine.

So either this got somehow fixed, or it is only valid when certain devel packages are installed in Mageia 3

I'll close it as old, even if it would still be valid, people who use devel packages won't run away from Mageia if they hit this
