with what for dm ? lxdm ? i don't know, i just select Mate in custom installation Check only Mate in list (unchecked other) before install in virtualbox,we see it is IceWM as check by defaut : http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1389206839.png ok lightdm, cc jani, as iirc something similar for xfce was fixed CC:

jani.valimaa This is happening because of feature in lightdm-gtk-greeter. To get session it first looks for users last/previous session, then the default one and if all these fails it just choses the first one available in sessions menu. This is the case when booting machine first time after install. IceWM is the first entry in the sessions menu. Workarounded this in Xfce by providing config [1] file with default session set to Xfce. This default value is used in first boot. When booting next time, last used session is pre-selected. [1] http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages?view=revision&revision=559749 DEs using lightdm as default display manager should also provide such config file to workaround this "feature" in default greeter. (In reply to Jani Välimaa from comment #4) I have follow xfce steps and shamelessly stole Jani's workaround. I have committed mate-session-manager-1.6.1-5.mga4 and waiting for freeze push. Hope this package solves the problem. And was pushed, if you could test Arnaud. I do new install with only Mate and it is okay ;) Fixed for me great Status:
