btw, kernel 3.10.25 is in testing, you could give a try.

I have the same problem with 3.10.24.

I rebooted to kernel 3.8.13-desktop-1.mga3, but I get the same PANIC error
message with VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776

Comment 3 Gilles Allard 2014-01-19 21:57:14 CET
OK, I fixed the problem. It's 2 steps process.

First, VMware Workstation9 do not compile with newer kernels.
VMware must be patched to fix the problem.
ref: http://mysticalzero.blogspot.fi/2013/07/vmblock-patch-for-linux-310-vmware.html

But even then, an error occur when starting VMware:
> PANIC /build/mts/release/bora-1031769/bora/lib/unicode/unicodeCommon.c:330
> Abandon

To fix that one, I used a trick from Oden Eriksson in Bug9739:
#mv /etc/vmware/icu/icudt44l.dat /etc/vmware/icu/icudt44l.dat.bak

Now it works (for Workstation9)
The problem exist also in other distros. VMware is too slow to adapt to recent kernel changes.
I have yet to find patches for Workstation10.
