After install from the kde i586 live dvd ~/.cache is left owned by root,
which prevents firefox from starting.

Just to be complete.. there is also .desktop file owned by root.

You're right, I remember having seen a ~/.desktop file or directory that was owned by root, too.

I don't know what it is needed for, though, I don't have it in a cauldron that was created by installing with traditional installer.

That's always been that way. The file is written by gdm
kdm/xdm/etc., depending on the desktop selected in the
menu.

I have tested under Mageia-4-RC-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD.iso and it is fixed - firefox works.

IMHO in user's directory should be user's privileges.

One more QA member confirmed this is fixed in the final release. Closing this bug + removing the entry from the Mageia 4 Errata.

I've saw this again, not with LiveCD/-DVD but with mga 4.1 FreeDVD installation.
~/.cache of my user was owned by root:root - I wonder if this hasn't the same root cause somehow (no pun intended) :)

Anybody seen this again in the meantime? I'm pretty sure I also had to fix this in my mga5 installation, which was also not from a live media.

Not here, my last mga5 (test-)install shows:

drwx------  4 1000 1000   4096 Nov 29 11:15 .cache/

However, I only added *1* user, and vaguely remember someone having mentioned something about everything being owned by root for all users, if additional users are added.

There may be a bug report or dev ml message about that, I don't remember where I saw that (and no time to look, at least not until tonight)
