Description Lewis Smith 2013-12-12 10:18:04 CET
Mageia 4 beta testing on real 32-bit hardware; noted often on the PAD:-

Under all non-Gnome desktops (at least KDE, XFCE, LXDE, Cinnamon, Mate) the application 'Music' crashes on launching - at least, fails to start. Tried from menus only; I do not know the command to try from terminal - not 'music'!.

Under Gnome itself it starts but I cannot make it do anything useful. Clicking the top right magnifying glass icon crashes it.

To run it from terminal:
$ gnome-music

CC: (none) => mageia
Hardware: i586 => All

Comment 2 Pascal Terjan 2014-01-07 15:11:28 CET
Seems to be many missing dependencies:

  File "/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages/gnomemusic/widgets.py", line 43, in <module>
    tracker = Tracker.SparqlConnection.get(None)
gi._glib.GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.Tracker1 was not provided by any .service files

After installing tracker:

  File "/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages/gnomemusic/mpris.py", line 27, in <module>
    import dbus
ImportError: No module named 'dbus'

After installing python3-dbus:

gi._glib.GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SettingsDaemon was not provided by any .service files

Installing gnome-settings-daemon did not help.

Also grilo-plugins should be suggested to avoid:
(gnome-music:21260): Grilo-WARNING **: [registry] grl-registry.c:440: Could not open plugins' info directory '/usr/lib64/grilo-0.2': Error opening directory '/usr/lib64/grilo-0.2': No such file or directory

Comment 3 Pascal Terjan 2014-01-07 15:12:35 CET
(Actually grilo would be enough to avoid the warning but suggesting the plugins seem more useful)
Comment 4 Pascal Terjan 2014-01-07 15:21:31 CET
Starting the gnome-settings-daemon manually worked but it killed my mouse cursor.
Comment 5 Pascal Terjan 2014-01-07 22:00:36 CET
Uploaded -4 with added dependencies, but I don't think it will work outside gnome.
Comment 6 Lewis Smith 2014-01-11 14:05:37 CET
Trying again under Classic 32-bit, I think RCv4, it crashes on startup now under Gnome itself, & GnomeClassic:
$ gnome-music
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages/gnomemusic/application.py", line 111, in do_activate
    self._window = Window(self)
  File "/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages/gnomemusic/window.py", line 84, in __init__
    self._grab_media_player_keys()
  File "/usr/lib/python3.3/site-packages/gnomemusic/window.py", line 102, in _grab_media_player_keys
    None)
gi._glib.GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SettingsDaemon was not provided by any .service files

Most other desktops still to try, but so far Cinnamon & Cinnamon2D the program launches OK, but if you click top-right magnify symbol (does what?) it crashes. This used to be its Gnome behaviour.
Comment 7 Lewis Smith 2014-01-11 14:22:12 CET
Further to previous comment, it seems that gnome-music starts only under Cinnamon; under all other desktops, it crashes immediately.

Closing this as it was Mageia 4, and Gnome Music worked in Mageia 5.
