it's the livedvd ? if yes remove "splash silent" in the grub command, so you will see message, and maybe give more info No, it's the standard installation DVD - Mageia-4-beta1-x86_64-DVD.iso. Removing "splash quiet" from the boot options gives no further information - after "Loading Linux kernel" is complete, the screen goes blank for one or two seconds, then the machine reboots. I've also reproduced the fault with a second USB stick, further ruling out a media problem (and before anyone asks, I've checked the md5sum of the downloaded ISO file). Thomas, any idea? CC:

thierry.vignaud, tmb probably a kernel issue... I seem to remeber some kernel hw issues where this happend.... what laptop is it ? HP dv7-7332ea Not that anybody seems to care, but this is still broken in beta 2. Still broken in final. Further experimentation shows:
- installation from the Mageia-4-x86_64-DVD.iso fails as described
above (both from USB stick and from DVD)
- installation from the Mageia 4 boot.iso reboots after displaying
"loading x86_64/all.rdz"
- installation from the Mageia-3 boot.iso but manually pointed at
a Mageia 4 FTP directory reboots after getting to 100% of the
"Loading program into memory" progress bar
- installation from the boot menu of Mageia-4-LiveDVD-GNOME-x86_64-DVD.iso
fails as for the classical installer DVD
- installation from the desktop of a live session started from the
Mageia-4-LiveDVD-GNOME-x86_64-DVD.iso succeeds and results in a
bootable system
So clearly it is something specific to the installer, not a general kernel issue.Version:

Mageia 4 install fails (reboots machine) at first stage Hi, I had experienced the same bug on a HP dc5850 SFF. I solved it by setting the storage option to Native mode IDE in the BIOS. CC:

abdallah Martin, is this still valid in RC? Setting version to cauldron since we can't fix the installer in Mageia 4. Version:

NEEDINFO No, it's Mageia 4 only. I was leaving this bug open until Mageia 5 was released, in case new users stumble across it (as I did find a way to work round it). Fortunately it only seemed to affect a limited range of hardware - I've only seen a couple of users reporting this issue in the forums. I suggest closing as won't fix once Mageia-5 is out. Keywords:
