Description of problem:
When multiple keyboard layouts have been defined, gnome-shell shows a menu with layouts in the top panel. There is also an option 'show keyboard layout' which calls gkbd-keyboard-display, part of libgnomekbd-common. This wasn't installed on my Cauldron system. Apparently a dependency is missing.

You first have to add a secondary input source (a.k.a. keyboard layout) in g-c-c under Region and Language.

Then, you will have a layout indicator on the gnome shell top panel.

In the dropdown menu of that indicator, the 'show keyboard layout' option is present.
