In GNOME you can press Prnt Scrn button and it will save a screenshot to ~/Pictures. Alt+Prtn Scrn for a window, Shift-Prtn Scrn for an area.

Meaning: Built into GNOME, no need to install anything. See settings, keyboard, shortcuts for the various shortcuts.

was gnome-screenshot installed ?

grep gnome-screenshot /media/data/iso/mga4/Mageia-4-alpha3-i586-DVD/Mageia-4-alpha3-i586-DVD.idx
Mageia-4-alpha3-i586 gnome-screenshot-3.10.0 (i586)

http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/task-gnome/current/SPECS/task-gnome.spec?view=markup#l63 (it's a suggest of task-gnome)

maybe caused by Bug 11095 - RPM does not put suggests tags in rpms anymore
Comment 3 claire robinson 2013-10-03 12:00:52 CEST
No it wasn't. It has been previously which made me notice it missing this time around.
Comment 4 claire robinson 2013-10-03 12:01:36 CEST
At least not in the menu, I didn't check for it beyond that.
Comment 5 Manuel Hiebel 2013-10-03 12:09:22 CEST
in fact rpmsrate install task-gnome-minimal and not task-gnome, futhermore gnome-screenshot is not listed

(we have really to think about how and what should install "desktop apps" (and have the same view in all DE).. )

gnome-screenshot is a GNOME 3.6 thing for fallback mode. In 3.8 and newer this is handled by GNOME shell.

ah :s

So what shall we do then? Is gnome-shell enough for it? If so we can close this bug then
Comment 9 claire robinson 2013-10-28 09:04:49 CET
Personally I think it's better, more user friendly, to include gnome-screenshot if it's still maintained. There is nothing anywhere explaining the buttons and there is no way to take a screenshot after a delay that way.

I think people are generally used to looking for an application to take screenshots and would notice one missing when they do reviews. They do offer more functionality than the 'Print Screen' key.

This is a very old bug. What is the status in Mageia 5?
