Hi Claire, can you please upload a reproducing file (or the reproducing beginning thereof, which is often enough)? VLC seems to work fine here. I also see it is Mageia 3 i586 (is it correct?) Playing the .mp4 file you sent with the offending vlcrc works for me fine on: 1. On my desktop machine running Cauldron with an Intel graphics card and a Core i3 processor. 2. On my laptop running Cauldron with an ATI Mobility Radeon card (cannot run x86-64 VMs there due to a CPU limitation). 3. On an x86_64 VBox VM running Mageia Linux 3. You can download some free-as-in-speech files from http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/ and you can try converting a file from a different format into something similar to what you have using ffmpeg.
