Just FYI, KDE 4.10.5 is in Mageia 3 updates_testing. It'd be good to know if it fixes this. CC:

balcaen.john, nicolas.lecureuil Ok - will watch out for that, David! Can you try with vlc as the phonon backend instead of gstreamer ? (you need to log out after switching the backend to get it effective). It's probably more a gstreamer issue. (In reply to John Balcaen from comment #3) > Can you try with vlc as the phonon backend instead of gstreamer ? How does one set that, John? (System Settings/Multimedia/Phonon/Backend shows just "gstreamer" with no other option offered.) You need to install phonon-vlc. (In reply to John Balcaen from comment #5) > You need to install phonon-vlc. OK - did that, and Gwenview no longer crashes on a .MOV! Many thanks, John. OK so bug in the gstreamer engine. Can you share the mov file? It occurred with any .MOV file I tried. E.g.: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10969499/P1020939.MOV cauldron 64bit => OK i will test ASAP on a mageia 3 32bit It looks as though the problem may be caused by some hardware difference. Just checked the .MOV file on 3 other PC's (all also with 32-bit Mageia-3 installed): - The SO's desktop - Toshiba laptop - Samsung NC110 netbook. The problem does not occur on any. (Phonon backend is Gstreamer.) It only occurs on my desktop - which has an nVidia graphics card (G92 [GeForce GTS 250) - proprietary driver installed. The others do not have nVidia. Problem disappeared after changing to phonon-vlc backend. Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago. http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/ Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. -- The Mageia Bugsquad Status:
