warrendiogenese Are there 3 partitions on the device by chance? If there are, the default is to open an instance of caja for each of partition found on the device. KDE handles it differently. You can turn off this behaviour with dconf-editor or gsettings. The command to turn off auto-lanching of caja for new media using gsettings is: gsettings set org.mate.media-handling automount-open false or using dconf-editor, go to org->mate->desktop->media-handling and uncheck automount-open. The media icons should still show up on the desktop, unless that's turned off. The default is to show them. A similar issue has recently been reported upstream about mulitple instances of caja being launched at startup, but I haven't been able to reproduce it yet. Status:

ASSIGNED Yes, there are three partitions on that drive. I'll try what you suggested. In fact, I've also noticed now that my Mageia 2 LXDE installation brings up a window three times asking me if I want to open it in the file manager, is there something similar I can do about that? Thank you for your help. Carolyn For LXDE you can turn off Mount Helper using lxsession-edit. That should stop it from opening a file manager for each partition. The partitions should still automount and it should give you the option to open file managers for each. (In reply to Carolyn Rowse from comment #2) As William explained; this is default behaviour for caja and by modifying settings you will not enable auto-open connected media. Also, this behaviour is choice of upstream. Unless they change their mind. So, i will not change this behaviour. I' ll close this bug report as wontfix. (In reply to William Murphy from comment #1) >A similar issue has recently been reported upstream about mulitple instances of caja being launched at startup, but I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.< This issue is a known issue and i have reproduced it many times. However there is no *real* fix for this from upstream yet. See: https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/100 Status:
