Bug 10998

Description:

The problem started after encountering bug 10627 (installer looping since unable to resolving dependancies), during an attempt to upgrade from mga2 to mga3.
I had just done a backup (using grsync), and using systemrescuecd (a live non-rpm based cd), used rsync to restore all files to my / partition (which includes /boot, /etc, /usr and /var).

On attempting to reboot, the menu was displayed, and all selections seemed to boot normally until :

cannot find init!
Please check to make sure that you passed a valid root filesystem!
dracut warning:

Briefly before the last few lines, the graphic interface was displayed with at least one dot (of the five).
I tried this several times, always the same result.

Before trying the upgrade to mga3, I had booted successfully with the same version of dracut for about a month.  (At least 50 - 100 times, since my computer had been overheating and frequently crashing.  That problem now solved.)

Confirmed that all /boot was properly restored, including the initrd.img.
As well, all "dracut" related files (found with "find") in /etc, /usr, and /var were properly restored.

at the dracut prompt :
mount lists: proc ; sys ; /dev ; /dev/shm ; /run (all rw)
as well as /dev/sda6 = /sysroot ro,noatime,acl
So it correctly identified "/", although I don't know if it should have the ro or acl options at this stage.

fstab uses labels, all values are correct, and the partitions themselves still have the correct labels (and uuids).
Similarly, the values of /boot/grub/menu.lst are correct.
(Both files the same as before.)

uname -a gives the correct kernel release.

So the software *seems* to be in the same state as it was when I could successfully boot Mageia, and the computer works well with a live rescue cd (it has run continuously for a few days).
So some software must be misconfigured, but I don't know where to look.
It is possible that some extra file somewhere is causing the problem, but I haven't found any.
