Description Dick Gevers 2013-08-06 22:01:43 CEST
Description of problem:

Install Mga4 from 64 bit classical DVD dated 06.08.2013.

Choose custom package selection, slect all grahical environments, i.e. incl. KDE4, GNOME3 and others available on disk.

KDE4 works ok, xfce4 works ok, so should GNOME3.

But the option to go into GNOME is not shown in kdm.

Still, lots and lot of GNOME packages are installed, incl. task-gnome-minimal.

Didn't try and don't have any chance to try for the time being. sorry.
Comment 3 Damien Lallement 2013-08-07 01:51:41 CEST
Yes, please test with gdm Dick and give us the result.
Comment 4 Dick Gevers 2013-08-07 06:37:26 CEST
At the moment no time to test, but when I mount the drive it is installed in (from active other drive), I can see there is no file /etc/X11/wmsession.d/02GNOME at all, which should be there.
Comment 5 Dick Gevers 2013-08-07 07:43:35 CEST
Package gnome-session is not in the iso.
Comment 6 Damien Lallement 2013-08-07 11:39:26 CEST

Confirmed with 32bit ISO also. GDM is started but there is no login screen.

really a packaging issue, like some other https://ml.mageia.org/l/arc/qa-discuss/2013-08/msg00019.html

Comment 10 Olav Vitters 2013-08-21 15:28:03 CEST
Funny, task-gnome-minimal never required gnome-shell. Added this in 3.9.90.
Comment 11 Dick Gevers 2013-08-21 15:55:49 CEST
Olav, I guess you mean gnome-session (as per comment 5) ?
Comment 12 Olav Vitters 2013-08-21 17:49:12 CEST
gnome-session is useless without gnome-shell, gnome-shell requires gnome-session. gnome-shell still might not have every dependency needed, but let's see.
