Description James Reno 2013-07-24 20:26:14 CEST
Description of problem:
When I unlock my screen (multiple monitor + video cards) all four of my monitors go black and then a random gradient draws from the left all the way to the right one pixel at a time taking almost 5 seconds to draw. Normally this would be pretty quick but because i have 4 monitors the horizontal realestate is 5920 pixels and takes forever.

Screen locker type set to "Screen saver: Flying Things -> Swarm"
Start automatically after 5 minutes
require password after 30 seconds

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia 3 (official)
kdeartwork4-kscreensaver-4.10.2-1.mga3

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use KDE, step away from keyboard and allow screen saver to activate
2. enter password into locker, and press enter
3. Screen will blank, and draw gradient from left to right slowly.

Additional Information:
I am not sure how to report this bug "correctly". I am sure that it is a very "platform / configuration specific" bug that I am sure is effecting very little people and will be extremely difficult to reproduce but it is very annoying.

I have two video cards installed:
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GTS] (rev a1)
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G80 [GeForce 8800 GTX] (rev a2)

I am using the nvidia drivers version 319.23

Kernel version: kernel-desktop-3.8.13.4-1

XORG configuration is here:

Please let me know if you need any further information.

03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1381 (rev a2) [GTX 750]
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1381 (rev a2) [GTX 750]

After upgrading to Mageia 4 the problem still occurs.

As well the problem occurs on newer video cards as well utilizing the new GTX 750's video cards. NVidia as well.

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].

Could you test in Plasma from current cauldron?

What if you use no screen saver and configure KDE to turn the screens off at the same time that it locks your session after some inactivity?

Over a year later and no reply.

Also, Mageia 5 has officially reached its End of Life on December 31st, 2017 https://blog.mageia.org/en/2017/11/07/mageia-5-eol-postponed/
It only continued to get important security updates since then, but non-security bugs have no chance of still getting fixed.

Closing as OLD
