I found the same too, was going to create a bug myself today.

I set it to display an error if fetching comics failed and no error is ever displayed. Clicking to configure it and clicking OK downloads the latest comic though.

I wondered if it was just timing out somewhere. I've now reduced the comic cache from 20 to 5 and *touch wood* it's worked at every boot since. Only 2 so far though so perhaps too early to say for sure..

I just installed all KDE-related updates from updates_testing, rebooted my system, but still no comic on my desktop :(

$ rpm -qa | grep comic
plasma-applet-comic-4.10.4-2.mga3
lib64plasmacomicprovidercore1-4.10.4-2.mga3
plasma-dataengine-comic-4.10.4-2.mga3

under certain conditions, which I didn't figure out yet, a comic is loaded. If you click the 'go back' arrow then, KDE crashes competely :(

Just updatet to KDE 4.10.5 from updates_testing, no changes.
Comment 6 Christian Müller 2013-08-18 14:52:53 CEST
Seems to be an upgrading issue: Just did a fresh install of Mageia3 on a friend's box, and there the comic plasmoid works like it should. Both my laptop and desktop are upgraded from Mageia2, and there it doesn't.

Just did a fresh install of Mageia3 x64 with all updates, and comic is still not working, Plasmoid stays empty. Tried Garfield and APoD.
Comment 8 Christian Müller 2014-03-29 14:03:05 CET
The comic plasmoid is still buggy in Mageia 4, KDE 4.11.5 testing, but I just found out something strange: I got used to the empty comic window for month now, and today suddenly, after switching to Gnome and then back to KDE, I see todays APoD on my desktop... can't believe it. What have I done? I allowed Gnomes network manager to manage the LAN interface...

Some new issue introduced: Can't add any new comic, looks like this one: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325028

If I jump to an APoD (e.g. March-19th) which is a youtube video, it crashes KDE completely. A black screen with a little net-applet window in the upper left corner is all that's left behind.

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
