Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Manuel Hiebel 2013-06-09 19:19:07 CEST
there was not backtrace ? (and it's likely more drakx-net)
Comment 2 Marcello Anni 2013-06-10 19:35:51 CEST
of course, i made a mistake :-)

these are the packages:

libdrakx-net-1.24-1.mga3
drakx-net-1.24-1.mga3
drakx-net-applet-1.24-1.mga3
drakx-net-text-1.24-1.mga3

i have no backtrace.

then it's kind of useless, can you reproduce it ?

Summary: Mgaapplet crashes when i try to start ppp0 connection (3G connection) => net_applet crashes when i try to start ppp0 connection (3G connection)

Comment 4 Marcello Anni 2013-06-12 17:54:56 CEST
yes, i can. maybe can i install the devel packages in order to have a useful backtrace to fix this bug? which packages do i have to install? thank you
Comment 5 Marcello Anni 2013-06-15 11:30:35 CEST
assigning it to Thierry Vignaud, because if i'm not wrong, he's the current drakx-net maintainer.

Comment 6 Thierry Vignaud 2013-06-15 12:39:01 CEST
Well it would be Blino (unless he's already father-ing his baby)
Anyway I've no hardware to reproduce or test...

Marcello:
1) didn't drabug popup a window when net_applet segfaulted?
what was displayed in it? (that would be trace to attach to
  this bug report)

2) could you get a gdb trace ?
   Just do the following:
- enable the "core release debug" medium in MCC's media manager
  or on command line:
  urpmi.update --no-ignore Core\ Release\ Debug
  urpmi.update Core\ Release\ Debug
- install the needed packages:
  urpmi gdb perl{,-Gtk2,-Glib}-debuginfo {glib2.0,gtk+2.0}-debuginfo
- then get PID of net_applet with "ps awx|fgrep net_applet"
  eg: "31298 ? S 2:30 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/net_applet"
Here it would be 31298 on my machine
- attach gdb to this PID prior to its segfault:
  gdb perl <PID>
(eg: "gdb perl 31298" on my machine)
- type "cont" then <ENTER>
- try to connect ppp0
- once it segfaults, type "bt"<ENTER>
- copy the backtrace printed by gdb in a text file
you'll attach to this bug report

thank you thierry for helping me :-)

no, there is not dragbug popup when net_applet segfaults, only the message (in konsole) "segment fault". now i'm using my smartphone connection (with limited GBs available) to use internet, as soon as i can i'll follow all the steps you asked me. thank you and hear you soon ;-)

cheers,
Marcello

This looks like bug #10289 (which I workarounded in drakconf by delaying an event)

Comment 10 Marcello Anni 2013-06-25 11:46:56 CEST
i have updated my system with recent updates (mcc and draktools included) but it still happens... is the workaround included in those updates or not?
Comment 11 Thierry Vignaud 2013-06-25 12:18:48 CEST
The workaround is only for mcc. And I need to delay the event a little bit more as it still happen on some slow machines
Comment 12 Marcello Anni 2013-07-08 12:47:37 CEST
Thierry, are you working on this bug? i know there is a lack of manpower but i would be really grateful because it's a really annoying bug (and together with bug #10735 i'm making a collection of them :-) ) please, let me know

cheers,
Marcello

Comment 14 Marcello Anni 2013-12-12 15:47:59 CET
thierry, can you fix this issue also for net_applet? thanks

cheers,
Marcello

PS= i'm waiting for your interview reply
Comment 15 Thierry Vignaud 2013-12-12 15:51:13 CET
Sadly, there's not enough data for me to do anything :-(
And I don't have the HW to reproduce

However could you try current Cauldron (== incoming Mageia 4 beta2)?
We've fixed some segfaults with net_applet.
Comment 16 Marcello Anni 2013-12-12 15:57:33 CET
unfortunately now i need a 100% fully working system because i'm writing the thesis for my graduation... as i finish (hope soon :) i'll try it and let you know

cheers,
Marcello

You can do a dual-boot between mga3 & mga4...

Note that I've made a fix in drakx-net in order to prevent mgaapplet to segault (bug #12041).
It may helps your bug
