If the problem with playback is fixed with the help of 'tainted' or 'non-free' package then I doubt it would be fixed. Gwenview is in core repository and there could not be any dependency on tainted or non-free packages... CC:

Gwenview is in core > repository and there could not be any dependency on tainted or non-free > packages... Understandable. Maybe some hint could be provided to the user, some dialog with an explanation and easy switch to click to install the needed program(s). (There was an offer to search for the needed plugin included with the error message but it did not resolve the issue, for me. There was no further information displayed when I clicked it). I see lots of similar reports. After all, without this functionality, gwenview appears to be broken, to many, if not most.

Triaged One of the possible solutions could be providing a meta-package (called say task-codecs) with codecs dependencies for both core and tainted repos and then adding this meta package as a KDE dependency (and probably GNOME too). If the user has only core repo enabled then he/she would have only free codecs and if the user enables tainted repo then tainted codecs get installed with this meta-package update. Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago. http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/ Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. -- The Mageia Bugsquad Status:
