Description Gerald 2013-06-06 22:46:38 CEST
Description of problem:

When I right-click the netapplet icon in the KDE system tray to "Disconnect Wired (Ethernet) (eth0)" or to "Configure Network" or to "Help" the netapplet disappears from the system tray and netapplet stops running (I checked this in the process table of system monitor). I need to restart netapplet.

Users are allowed to manage the connection, but the right-click option to "Disconnect Wired (Ethernet) (eth0)" doesn't work.

How reproducible:

Always (in Mageia 3).

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Start Mageia 3 and log in as a user in KDE.
2. Netapplet is running and visible in thet system tray
3. Right-click the netapplet icon.
4. Choose "Disconnect wired" or "Configure network" or "Help"
5. This removes the netapplet icon from the system tray
6. Check system monitor to see that the process net_applet has ended
7. Open the application launcher menu - Tools - System Tools to restart NetApplet
8. Netapplet is running again and the icon is back in the system tray.

if you kill net_applet, run it again from the command line and make your steps to reproduce, do you have any message ?

The Gtk-Message and the messages "Cannot open ..." appear immediately.

The message "Segmentation fault" appear after I right-click the netapplet icon and select "Disconnect Wired (Ethernet) (eth0)"

net_applet is not shown when I log in. Network is fine.

net_applet will not show for me even though it appears to start. From cli I see
$ net_applet
Cannot open /dev/input/eventX: Permission denied
Cannot open /dev/input/eventX: Permission denied
Cannot open /dev/input/eventX: Permission denied
Cannot open /dev/input/eventX: Permission denied
Cannot open /dev/input/eventX: Permission denied

Then nothing more. ps aux shows it has started.
This is on a new install of Mageia 3 using old home partition and icewm.

Something else on my pc, I had a blank window that I didn't know what it was that I could not kill, even as root. It would hang shutdown as well. Today it wasn't there but the "updates available icon was on the tray. Once it was gone, I was able to start the net_applet and had an icon in the tray. I don't know if these are related but I'll share them just in case.
Comment 6 Max Stam 2013-07-27 04:24:48 CEST
Now that I can see it, I can confirm the same behaviour of net_applet.
Right-click to disconnect and segmentation fault
Comment 7 Anderson Carvalho 2013-08-07 02:08:07 CEST
I am also having the same problem. When I right-click the net_applet icon in the KDE system tray to "Disconnect Wireless (wlan0)" or to "Configure Network" or to "Help" the net_applet disappears from the system tray and net_applet stops running (I checked this in the process table of system monitor). I need to restart net_applet.

A permissions error? When I run net_applet as root everything works okey!

# net_applet
got connection status event: link_down wlan0
got connection status event: interface_down wlan0
got connection status event: interface_down wlan0
Interface "wlan0" is already disabled.
got connection status event: connection_start wlan0
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
got connection status event: link_up wlan0
got connection status event: connection_start wlan0
got connection status event: dhcp_request wlan0
got connection status event: dhcp_success wlan0
got connection status event: interface_up wlan0

If run net_applet as root I can disconnect wireless, use the help, etc... and net_applet does not disappear.

Same problem for me on mga3_64 and kde4.

When I right-click the netapplet icon in the KDE system tray to "Disconnect Wired (Ethernet) (eth0)" or to "Configure Network" or to "Help" the netapplet disappears from the system tray and netapplet stops running. I need to restart netapplet.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
