It isn't the very last version of R, but it isn't so outdated; R 2.15.2 was released march 1, 2013 !!
R 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 was released too late after the versions freeze to be included in Mga 3.

You should install gplots 2.11.0 instead of the very last version.
gplots 2.11.0 requires R >= 2.10; from DESCRIPTION file
  "Depends: R (>= 2.10), ..."

I have installed the earlier versions of all of the packages I use as a workaround...but once newer versions of packages come out, it will be harder to figure out which packages are not compatible with v2.x.x

The R community is dealing with this problem (no backward compatibility) as well, and hopefully the archives will be easier to access and packages that are not compatible with version 2 will be labeled

Does this mean that R will not be updated until MGA4?

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
