Description Carolyn Rowse 2013-05-25 23:24:14 CEST
Description of problem:

After installing Mga3 from the KDE live CD, I added on LXDE. This came with three desktop icons already provided. I don't want them, so I'm trying to delete them but they keep coming back when I next log in (except for the Home one, which suddenly vanished and I don't know what I did to bring that about!).

I don't recall this happening with Mga2, so I assume it should be possible to remove them and this is a bug. On the other hand, LXDE as provided with the full DVD doesn't have any desktop icons by default, so it might be that my Mga2 installation was from the DVD and if these icons are added you can't just remove them by right-clicking and selecting Delete.

Actually I see these are now included by default in an installation from the classical installer as well, but it looks as if it's not a quick and easy job to remove them in LXDE, so that's an upstream issue not a Mageia issue.

I checked our wiki page on LXDE, some of which I wrote, and I see I wrote there that the desktop icons can be removed by right-clicking and selecting Delete, so I must have been able to do it successfully in Mga2.

I got the same problem and found the fix for /usr/bin/startlxde. After line 15, the following line is missing and must be added back:

$OPENBOX_CONF_DIR="$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/openbox"

Then startlxde will stop believing that it's its first start, and will thus stop re-creating those desktop files again and again.

In fact, there's even an update candidate for this already! See bug #5941
