Description Len Lawrence 2013-05-24 20:10:54 CEST
Description of problem:
Although later versions of Tcl/Tk may contain integrated support for several popular image formats tk8.5 does not. Funda Wang packaged Img1.4 for Mandriva and that rpm, referenced above, contains all the components needed for tk. Copying the individual libraries into /usr/lib[64]/Img1.4 and into /usr/lib[64]/tk8.5/Img1.4 works but a neater solution is needed for both Tcl/Tk and ruby-tk and other languages with Tk bindings (perl, python).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Img1.4 seems to be the latest

If it would help, I could test the package against my existing ruby scripts on 64-bit and 32-bit machines. Might have time to write a test to cycle through the image formats.

There seems to be tkimg in the repos. Isn't it what you need?

Yes. I have been using it but there is a bug with respect to the PNG format. I filed a bug against this (12596). Bug 10258 should be closed. Thanks Remi.
