Attachments: enable EXA by default on trident

Description Derek Jennings 2013-05-24 11:49:50 CEST
With x11-server-common-1.13.4 the XAA module is no longer provided but drakx-kbd-mouse-x11-0.109-1.mga3 selects the XAA module by default for the Trident video driver.

When X is started the result is a blank screen

The workaround is to boot in safe mode, run XFdrake, select the vesa driver and reboot. The Trident driver can then be selected, and the box checked to select EXA instead of XAA

I do not know if this affects other drivers also but this is similar to Bug 7521

enable EXA by default on trident

Can you test this patch?
as root in a terminal, run the following commands:

cd /usr/lib/libDrakX; patch -p2 </where/it/is/10251.diff

@Marja: could you check if EXA worsk on SIS too BTW?

The patch removes the check box to select between XAA and EXA, but it still tries to load XAA by default.

Sorry, Thierry, I'm very much behind on reading the bugmails I'm cc'ed in.

My SiS card works fine with EXA in a cauldron that was last updated on August 15th:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf shows:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
    VendorName "Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]"
    BoardName "SiS old series-based cards"
    Driver "sis"
    Option "DPMS"
    Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
EndSection

How do you see that?

Did anything change for you (in cauldron, for instance?)

It was in the xorg.log

Unfortunately I no longer have this computer. It was one I was 'upgrading' to linux for someone, so I cannot try out current cauldron.

Thanks for the feedback, Derek!

It is a pity you don't have access to this computer anymore. So if tv comes with a new patch, there is nothing to test it on.

I'll close this bug as OLD for now. To anyone who hits this bug: Please reopen it and tell in which fully updated version(s) of Mageia you have it.
