Description Kamil Zorychta 2013-05-23 19:17:28 CEST
Description of problem:
After installation drivers to HP LaserJet 1020 printer, firmware is not loaded automatically. The firmware should be loaded always after turn on printer.
In Mageia 2 issue was not present, in current release problem occur.
Generally printer is printing when firmware is loaded manually by HP lib toolbox or hp-firmware -n. After that there is not problem with printing.
Udev rule are installed so I am not sure what is the reason. The directories structure was changed a little bit introducing systemd, so maybe is it reason (wrong path etc.)?

Note: After turn on printer mageia correctly detected that printer is on (notify), but firmaware is not load.

I would like notice that the similar bug is reported by Oleg Bosis:Bug 10072.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable) - all packages are 64 bit (installed from DVD):
Mageia 3 x86_64
hplib-3.12.9
hplib-hpijs-3.12.9
hplib-hpijs-ppds-3.12.9
hplib-model-data-3.12.9
task-printing-hp-2011
lib64udev1 195 22.mga3
system-config-printer-udev 1.3.12 6.mga3
kde4

How reproducible:
Reproducing bug is very simple, you need install hplibs (installed automatically by mageia tools), after that turn off printer and once again turn on, firmware shall be loaded, but is is not.

I think it's a common bug in hplip package. See Bug 10072

Comment 2 Kamil Zorychta 2013-05-23 19:48:02 CEST
I expect that is it. HP 1020 and P1006 are quite similar printers (need load firmware before printing).

I had a similar problem with my HP Deskjet 1050 on an installation from the live KDE CD but got it working in the end. Unfortunately, after that I decided to try fresh installations from a couple of other media, then I went back to an installation from the live KDE CD and now I can't get it to work at all, not even by manually installing packages.
