ottosa We haven't even opened Cauldron again, so no testing yet. And I suggest you not to mix UEFI with Secure Boot, AFAIK those are two different things. Hopefully UEFI will be supported in Mageia 4 but I don't think that we will or should support Secure Boot. This is stupid lock-out trick from Microsoft and we should not support such moves. CC:

I also agree this is a stupid lock-out to keep the customeers tied only to the Microsoft. Thus I would like to change the title here to only UEFI. Thanks for the comments at all. Cheers.

UEFI support on Mageia 4 I'd also vote (should any such vote ever matter :-) ) in favour of UEFI support on Mageia (not interested in SecureBoot). See https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4937 where I've ended up using OpenSUSE 12.3 which manages it cleanly (Fedora 18 also does but messes up the final boot menu, omitting Win8). CC:

andy_jefferson Very unclear right now if for Mageia 3 it would be even possible to install and still have windows 8 bootable. I think that UEFI + shim support would be good. CC:

nelg UEFI support will be indeed needed. And SecureBoot support is not "stupid lock-out" as it really can improve your security with a nice chain of trust. For that we need to use the signed shim, and provide support in our install media as well. We also need to add efibootmgr and use it. CC:

bruno I strongly agreed that Mageia have to support UEFI. Ubuntu, Fedora and Opensuse supports it. The only the other distro I've noticed that does not support is OpenMandriva. So pls ensure that Mageia is becoming a distro that only works on soon to be extinct computers and in the process itself becoming endangered species/distro. Mageia definitely very soon has to have UEFI support as nowadays all computers are UEFI-based and BIOS is quickly has becoming something of the past. So far I've to resorted to install 3 new notebooks with either OpenSuSE or Fedora although I love Mageia. This really crushed my heart. CC:
