oliver.bgr Built for Cauldron. Will backport it into 1 asap. Status:

ASSIGNED Is this "only" for i586 or will it be for x86-64 too? The BS builds both architectures at the same time (and it didn't throw any errors), so it's for both. Some progress: HandBrake has been removed from Cauldron in between due to unclear situation about what goes where on the mirrors. After the discussion about this, and after Anssi helped me to wrestle with HandBrake build system, packaging it properly and get it into submission (pun intended) it's now available for Cauldron. Will check how to get this to Mageia 1, maybe in backports_testing. CC:

Backport There's still a license problem What I meant is : when it was discussed on september 21st, it had been told that we cannot provide a non GPL binary in tainted repo... (Mageia policy) Handbrake is built with a "bundled" faac-devel library (indeed it seems it is fetched and downloaded before building) : faac beeing non free => handbrake looses its GPL license and so might not be provided anymore ... unless disabling this ability to be built with faac The license adaptation (revision 136218) seems to be tricky since faac is not free see bug 2833 CC:

2833 Nice that you care, but you don't need to explain again what was already discussed multiple times on mailing lists. Actually i don't know why handbrake is still available for cauldron, as i asked sysadmins during that meeting to remove it due to the bundled libfaac. Then i've also sent a mail as reminder: https://www.mageia.org/pipermail/mageia-dev/2011-October/008630.html BTW: Handbrake already has support for using ffaac (ffmpegs aac encoder) but the quality is not that good, and as faac currently is their default encoder for many scenarios and also fallback encoder, this won't provide a good user experience if we cripple handbrake that way. When handbrake drops libfaac we can have a package for it again. Until then we'd have to wait. (In reply to comment #11) > Actually i don't know why handbrake > is still available for cauldron, as i asked sysadmins during that meeting to > remove it due to the bundled libfaac. Then i've also sent a mail as reminder: > https://www.mageia.org/pipermail/mageia-dev/2011-October/008630.html > My comment on this bug report was a reminder too, because I saw handbrake still on the repo... after your mail. HandBrake packages have been removed from mirrors. Closing this bug as WONTFIX (actually it's a CANTFIX currently, as packages which are nonfree AND tainted at the same time are not allowed, also packages linking to libfaac are not allowed). This is a reminder until handbrake developers drop libfaac. BTW: blogdrake offers HandBrake packages for Mageia in between ... Keywords:
