I cannot reproduce this with my synaptic touchpad. For example, opening the file manager takes a single tap and then opening any folder withing the file manager takes a double tap. Bringing any other window into focus takes a single tap as well. Have you looked at your touchpad settings and also window focusing options within XFCE? CC:

philippe.l Also, can you attach the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to this bug. I want to see if you have any weird entries for you devices. I'm not experienced with xfce (gnome refugee) IN xfce config I've now selected single click for icons - wasn't selected before. File manager will open with a single tap on the toolbar icon. Opening e.g. the tmp folder from here still usually takes 3 taps. Ha, I've just sorted out some apparent variability in what I was getting: 1.open File Manager with 1 tap 2.select e.g. the tmp folder with one tap 3.pause a moment, then try to open tmp with 2 taps - nothing happens at all 4.give tmp 3 taps and it opens 5. go back up a level so you can see tmp again, highlight it with a single click 6.leaving tmp highlighted, put the cursor over e.g. Music, when a fainter highlighter band runs through it, and quick double-tap opens it as expected. Summary: If an item shown within File Manager has been previously highlighted by a single tap, it then takes 3 quick taps to open it. If it hasn't already been highlighted with a single tap, then it only takes 2 quick taps to open it. Completely reproducible within File Manager on my laptop. Another example: tap on the application-finder binocular-icon. Single tap opens it now I've set single-click. Most available options, e.g About Xfce, AcidRip Abiword, take 3 taps to open. Occasionally a program will open if it is the first thing double-tapped on opening Application Finder, but not subsequently. This is not completely reproducible, unlike the File Manager example above. I'll send xorg.conf from the affected computer in a moment Created attachment 3933 [details]
X config file
Looking at your X config file, I can't see anything wrong with it. For me, it's still only two taps to open the tmp folder or programs from the launcher. Have you tried adjusting the double click time? You can adjust that in the mouse and touchpad settings. My double click settings is set to 250ms, and the distance is set to 5pixels. Check to see if you have the same settings. Maybe when you triple tap, your second and third tap are quicker? My settings (default) are the same. I've previously tried changing my tap-rhythm, think it is consistent. Given that yours is OK, maybe we have to let this go for the moment. Not a release stopper if yours is behaving (and probably not in any case). I'm packing to go overseas for 3/52, will be online with laptop. Won't get much time in the next day to look at this, will come back to it when I can. Really appreciate your prompt interest in this quirky puzzle. Yeah, I don't have extensive knowledge about the system but occasionally I see bugs I can at least try to troubleshoot. So there's one last thing to try concerning this bug. Have you tried removing xfce's configuration folders in your home directory? #rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4 #rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4-session #rm -rf ~/.cache/sessions Then logout and log back in and that should do the trick. This of course will remove any customizations of your xfce session and will restore it to default settings. If the bugs persists after this, then there might be something wrong with the driver for your specific touchpad model. Let's try the above and see what happens. Just touching base. New install M3 x86_64 classic DVD, still seeing this but haven't tried the above yet. Will get to it in next couple of days (getting the only laptop, away on hols, up to speed with M3) Me is very slick overall! Version:

3 s/Me/M3 is very slick overall With your new install, did you reformat your /home partition? If you did, then running the steps above won't fix the issue since you're already starting with a fresh default XFCE session. If you kept your /home, then the above steps should reset your desktop to it's default state. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't a bug in the synaptic driver. However your laptop is several years old so driver support should be mature. Have by chance tried other distributions on the same laptop? Yes, this is now (M3) a completely new install on a freshly formatted partition, but still showing the same issue. Interesting suggestion re the synaptic driver... Revisiting this as of mageia 4 version 2. I got the same behaviour now in xfce4 file manager on the very first double-click for a directory I tried to open - the focus just went to that directory without opening it. Thereafter, everything worked as expected and I couldn't reproduce the problem. I have seen very recent comment (was it discuss, or qa-discuss?) of others reporting 3-click issues with xfce, but this is now down to a minor annoyance where clicking in file-manager doesn't always work as expected, but mostly it works. Closing for now. Status:
