I did the following: 1. Installed and booted successfully using ati driver. 2. Switched graphics to fglrx. 3. Ran aticonfig --initial as root. 4. Thankfully I was able to reach a text login with Ctrl-Alt-F2, and ran drakconf from the command line. Didn't even know that was possible, but I chanced it. I must have my Catalyst driver working.
